WAHPETON, N.D. — Nearly two years after her death, Bailey Bernstein’s legacy continues to inspire the community.

Bailey, 20, was killed by a drunk driver in October 2023 while walking with her mother. To honor her life and continue her mission of giving back, the first Bailey Bernstein 5K Glow/Walk Run will take place Saturday, Oct. 4, in Chahinkapa Park.

Her parents originally hoped at least 100 people would participate, but nearly 400 have registered so far. Participants are encouraged to wear glowing attire to light up the night. The race will start at 7:15 p.m. at the Hughes Shelter.

Her father, Jon Bernstein, said the community’s support has been overwhelming. “It’s amazing, the support, I’m at a loss for words,” he said. “She was a fun, outgoing, goofy girl.”
