When Donald Trump announced a vast swath of tariffs in April, few Australians were more nervous than cattle farmers.

Beef is Australia's biggest export to the US, and a 10 per cent tariff had the potential to seriously dampen the business.

But Trump's "Liberation Day" has been a boon to Australian beef farmers thanks to another country altogether.

In recent months, Chinese exports of American beef have dropped by 90 per cent.

And Australia is making up nearly all of the shortfall.

China has bought nearly half a billion dollars more in Aussie beef in the past five months alone.

Agricultural market analyst Matt Dalgleish said a series of American abattoirs who previously had access to China have now been blocked.
