The trio of phrases on the lighted sign outside Faith Lutheran Church on Monday night in Grand Blanc Township reverberated in the words spoken by Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth inside.

“As we gather tonight, it is important for us to gather in hope, it is important for us to gather with hearts for our neighbors,” the pastor said to roughly 100 people gathered. “A gentleman once asked Jesus: who is my neighbor? And Jesus says, basically says, the person who in front of you who is in need.

“The answer is simple: whoever’s in need that was is in your arena, that’s your neighbor. And for us this week those are the people of the Latter-day Saint Church on McCandlish Road.”
