COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) -The Lake City City Council, which has been divided on the issue, approved a contract for property and casualty insurance with only two days to spare.

After expressing concerns about city staff allowing the process to become delayed, the council voted to switch insurance carriers to the Preferred Governmental Insurance Trust.

This change is expected to save the city 28 percent on premiums.

However, Mayor Noah Walker and Councilman James Carter favored remaining with the current insurance carrier.
