LOCKEFORD, Calif. —

A car crashed into a duplex at the intersection of Elliott Road and Church Street in Lockeford, California, around 8 a.m. Monday, scaring two families.

Ashley Cervantes, a resident of the duplex, described the incident as a "big boom" that shook the house.

"It was getting close to 8 when we heard that big boom," Cervantes said. The noise frightened her young boys, who began screaming.

"I woke up to look out the window, and I saw the car that had hit the house," she said.

The crash also woke up Misty Hipsher, another resident.

"I jumped out of bed, 'What the heck?' And then she jumped out. 'Mom, what's wrong? What's wrong?'" Hipsher said.

She and her daughter Jade were taking advantage of fall break to sleep in when the crash occurred.
