Residents of Delhi-NCR woke up to a sudden spell of heavy rain on Tuesday, bringing much-needed respite from humid conditions but also causing waterlogging and traffic snarls across the capital region.

Heavy rains and festive rush combined to create a double blow for Delhiites, as they struggled through traffic jams on their way to their destinations.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the downpour is tied to a complex interplay of weather systems currently active over western and northern India.

The IMD explained that a well-marked low-pressure area has formed over the Gulf of Kutch, which is playing a central role in influencing Delhi’s weather.
