HUNTINGTON — Two new markers were added Sunday to the Appalachian Freedom Heritage Tour — part of the National Park Service National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom .

The first marker honors three enslaved men — named Moses, Joshua and Joe — who escaped from the Green Bottom Plantation to Ohio in 1819. This was the first of multiple documented escapes from the plantation, which sits along W.Va. 2 near Green Bottom on the Ohio River near Huntington. The location later became a vital point in the Underground Railroad, using the Ohio River to connect with an established network in southeastern Ohio before continuing northward. News
