A boat carrying residents from Nkhwazi Village, Likoma, capsized in Ngofi, Mozambique, as passengers returned from attending a Chioda traditional dance.

Two people were injured and rushed to Likoma District Hospital.

Alex Nakhaonga, a clinical assistant at the hospital, said one victim was treated as an outpatient, while the other was admitted but is expected to be discharged soon. Both are reported to be recovering.

This incident marks the third boat accident on Likoma Island in just two months, raising serious concerns about water safety.

Following the accident, Likoma Police spokesperson Andrew Kusimbwa urged residents to avoid overcrowding boats and to prioritise safety when travelling by water
