The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has issued a warning to motorists, with hundreds of thousands at risk of being slapped with a £1,000 fine. The alert comes as recent estimates suggest there are nearly half a million untaxed vehicles on UK roads.

It's the responsibility of the registered keeper to ensure each vehicle is taxed. Anyone found driving an untaxed car, van or other vehicle could face a fine up to £1,000. In a post on X, formerly Twitter , the DVLA has reminded people "you must" make sure your vehicle is taxed.
