A trade union leader has blamed UK Government mistakes for Scottish Labour’s collapsing poll rating. ‌

GMB General Secretary Gary Smith said Prime Minister Keir Starmer “really needs to get things moving” to help Anas Sarwar’s bid to become First Minister. ‌

Scottish Labour hammered the SNP at the general election, but Starmer’s difficult first year has coincided with a huge fall in support for Sarwar’s party . ‌

A recent opinion poll found Labour seventeen points behind the SNP and in line to come third behind Reform UK.

Smith, who was born in Edinburgh and maintains a keen interest in Scottish politics, said of the poll deficit:
