Early works have started ahead of the demolition of empty shops in Nuneaton town centre. Utilities company vans have been spotted in Bridge Street over the past 48 hours.

They are disconnecting some of the old shops, which include the old Greggs, Toni & Guy, Tandy's Tandy's and Radio Rentals and charity shops. Lots of the old retail units have been fenced off as part of this work.

This is ahead of the start of their demolition. CoventryLive previously reported that Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is set to start bulldozing some buildings on Bridge Street from the middle of October.

It is a huge part of the borough council-led 'Bridge to Living' project, which takes in part of Bridge Street, Church Street and the memorial gardens. It will see this whole area 'opened up'
