Police are hunting a man — who is possibly armed — after reports of a forestry worker being confronted by a gunman in an area of forest south-east of Perth.

Officers say the frightening incident happened on Watershed Road in the State Forest near Flint — about 55km east of Armadale — about 4pm on Wednesday.

There were unconfirmed reports that the man was carrying a firearm.

No one was hurt.

The gunman is described as being aged about 40, 180cm tall, of a medium to large build with tanned skin and a white scruffy beard.

He has a sleeve tattoo on his left arm and was wearing a green army T-shirt, black pants and a beanie.

Multiple resources, including police air wing, have been deployed to the area.

Police believe there is no risk to the public.
