LOUISVILLE, Ky. — UofL Health halted plans in August to open a new birthing center in south Louisville, leaving councilmembers wondering what will become of $8 million the city chipped in.
UofL Heath announced the forthcoming labor and delivery ward at St. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital would no longer happen, even though the hospital had already been hiring staff for what would have been the first birthing center west of Interstate 65 in 50 years.
Hospital leaders cited expected cuts to Medicaid, brought on by the Trump administration, as the reason for halting the project even after millions of dollars had already been spent on the yearslong endeavor.
“Unavoidable circumstances have forced the cancelation of labor and delivery services coming to UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital,"
