As of Wednesday, Alberta will officially have Canada’s lowest minimum wage.
Effective Oct. 1, Saskatchewan will surpass Alberta as its minimum wage rises to $15.35 per hour. Alberta remains at $15 per hour, which has been the rate since former premier Rachel Notley put it there in 2018.
The roller coaster of minimum wage policy over the past decade has seen Alberta soar to the highest wage in the country before sliding all the way down the rankings.
