NYU Tulsa is welcoming “Black Portraiture[s]: Tulsa Stories,” an 11th annual Black Portraitures international conference.
The Friday, Oct. 3 event in Tulsa brings together intergenerational groups of scholars, artists, activists, storytellers, educators, gallerists and photographers to explore cultural memories and resistance.
The conference has previously been hosted in Paris, Johannesburg, Toronto, Venice and Florence in Italy, and the U.S. cities of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Newark, New Jersey; and New York.
All-day programming includes panels with themes such as Reimagining Tulsa, Black Wall Street, The Archive and Art, Writing & Music. The event will feature short presentations from a variety of speakers sharing their respective works/practice, moderated conversation, audience Q&A
