PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) -- A person drowned in a pond at a park in Plant City on Monday.

Plant City Police Department officers were called to Samuel W. Cooper Park on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. at around 1:30 p.m. for a report of a male in distress in the pond.

Police said the male was completely submerged in the pond when they arrived. A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office dive team helped recover the male, whose age was not disclosed.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The Plant City Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time," the police department said in a news release.

The incident remains under investigation.
