A new warning has been issued on side hustles as millions of people go above the HMRC income threshold.
Experts say nearly 22 million UK adults now run a side hustle, with each one averaging £914 a month or nearly £11,000 a year, which is far above HMRC's £3,000 reporting threshold.
Many could face unexpected tax penalties if they fail to register with HMRC by October 5, 2025. Fines start at £100 and can climb past £1,600.

Even with HMRC raising the reporting threshold to £3,000 this year from its previous £1,000, the average side hustler still falls well within the bracket for filing a tax return.
