The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will be issuing letters to state pensioners for a free payment of up to £300 from Wednesday.

The £300 is a Winter Fuel Payment to help cover heating expenses during the colder months and it is due to be paid to millions of pensioners in England and Wales this year, reports Express.co.uk.

The payment is being restored to the vast majority of pensioners who missed out on it last winter following a change to eligibility rules, however a government U-turn earlier this year means around nine million pensioners are in line to get in 2025.
