A 24-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving after he was observed driving the wrong way in downtown Ottawa. The incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on Monday when officers from the Ottawa detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police noticed the vehicle making a wrong-way turn on Isabella Street.

Suspecting that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, the police conducted a roadside screening. Following this initial assessment, the driver was taken to the station for further testing.

The man faces charges for operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, as well as for having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. As a result of the charges, his driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The driver is scheduled to appear in court at a later date to address the charges. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of safe driving practices, particularly regarding impaired driving.
