ALLEGAN, Mich. (WOOD) — A man faces five felonies after authorities say he held a cockfight at his home near Hopkins in July.

Edin Dilson Rodas, 37 was formally charged Sept. 23 with three counts of fighting animals, a count of possessing animal fighting equipment and a count of third-degree killing or torturing animals, deputies say.

The Allegan County Sheriff's Office says the charges stem from a suspected cockfighting event at Rodas' home in Hopkins Township on July 26. An Illinois-based animal rights advocacy group, Showing Animals Respect and Kindness, or SHARK, sent video to the sheriff's department two days later. Deputies say they searched Rodas' home July 29.
