Memorial service for Children’s Theatre of Elgin cofounder

A memorial service for Peter Akemann, cofounder of the Children’s Theatre of Elgin, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Journey of Hope in Elgin.

Akemann died Sept. 21 after battling cancer for three and a half years, according to his online obituary. He was 73.

Akemann and his twin brother, David, co-founded Children’s Theatre of Elgin and Fox Valley Youth Theatre in 1988. He produced and directed dozens of shows during the 30 years he served on the organization’s board, many as its president, his obituary said.

He graduated from Elgin High School in 1969, Elgin Community College in 1971, Brigham Young University in 1972 and completed a master’s degree at Northwestern University’s Garrett Theological Seminary in 1973.
