Armando Iannucci, creator of hit comedy series The Thick Of It, has said he was advised against doing a project about Donald Trump. The director said he was told that any projects related to the US president could be “weighed down by legal issues”. ‌

The 61-year-old Scottish writer and director is famous for his political satire. His previous projects include the film The Death Of Stalin as well as the hit HBO series Veep, starring Seinfeld actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus as vice-president Selina Meyer. ‌

Speaking at the Labour party conference, Iannucci said his Trump-focused idea was met with backlash concerns, saying: “I talked a couple of months ago about wanting to do something about Trump, not a satire on Trump, but maybe doing something with his speeches. ‌
