PORTLAND, Ore — Monday night passed with no arrests made in the South Portland neighborhood near the local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, city police reported.
The area around South Macadam Avenue has become the focus of national attention after President Donald Trump announced this weekend that he was sending National Guard troops to help protect ICE sites in Oregon. However, despite the president's claims that Portland looked like an active war zone , police data indicates that the protests have been mostly peaceful.
A Portland Police Bureau Incident Management Team monitored the neighborhood for criminal activity overnight, but "made no arrests," and "no force was used" by officers, the bureau said in a press release .
