SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The deadline for the Senate to pass a bill that would fund the government is just hours away.

If the bill isn’t signed by then, we will go into the first government shutdown since 2018.

How will the shutdown impact us in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry?

Essential government services are still going to be up and running, for instance, the TSA and air-traffic controllers will continue working without pay- so travelers can still fly.

The US Postal Services will still be up and running as it’s primarily self-funded.

But what happens to other services is a bigger question.

Social Security, VA and other benefit programs will continue but there could be delays in services if employees are furloughed.
