Genesee County has declared a local state of emergency following Sunday's deadly attack at a Grand Blanc Township church.

Under state law, the declaration allows the county to activate local emergency response and recovery plans and provide additional funding and support services. It also allows Genesee County to request resources from the state including deployment of emergency personnel, and to expedite aid to residents and organizations impacted by the attack.

Genesee County Board of Commissioners Chair Delrico J. Loyd signed the declaration Monday, he announced in a post on the commissioners' 1836 Place website.

The declaration comes after police said a 40-year-old Burton man drove a vehicle into the Grand Blanc Township Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints late Sunday morn
