The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is going to distribute a Christmas bonus to millions of benefit recipients soon.

Worth £10, the Christmas bonus has received criticism in previous years as an "insult" to households, given the soaring costs of bills and inflation, reports Express.co.uk .

Since its launch by the DWP in 1972, the payment has remained unchanged and not risen according to inflation.

It was briefly increased to £70 in 2008 to help individuals during the financial crisis however it was cut back to £10 the following year.
