MONTPELIER (WCAX) - While the latest data shows that many of the estimated 6,600 federal employees in Vermont won’t be impacted by an impending federal shutdown , the ripple on the state’s economy will depend on the shutdown’s length.
In Vermont, most federal employees will stay on the job, while not necessarily collecting a paycheck. That includes immigration enforcement, the Army and Air National Guard, the VA, TSA, postal workers, and others who are deemed essential.
“That said, there are thousands who could be subject to being furloughed during the shutdown,” said Katrina Menard with the Public Assets Institute, a left-leaning think tank.
