DETROIT – A Detroit road worker was struck after an 81-year-old man fell asleep at thew wheel on I-75.
Michigan State Police in Detroit responded to the scene near East Warren Avenue at 12:40 p.m. on Monday after receiving a call that a pedestrian had been hit.
A preliminary investigation showed that a City of Detroit road maintenance crew was working on the right shoulder of southbound I-75 when a Buick Enclave driven by the Mt. Clemens man crossed over the fogline and struck the rear of a pickup truck which was part of the work convoy.
One of the road workers that was outside of the vehicle was struck by the Buick and the pickup.
He was conscious after the crash and driven to a local hospital by one of the other crew members with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The Buick
