The governor has identified a retired CareerTech administrator and resident of Tulsa as his choice to serve out the remainder of Ryan Walters’ unexpired term, sources tell the Tulsa World.
Oklahoma’s controversial state superintendent is expected to submit his formal notice to Gov. Kevin Stitt some time today — but still hadn't as of 2:30 p.m. — ahead of his Wednesday start in a private sector job.
Stitt’s choice of executive leadership consultant Lindel Fields, 54, signals a sharp departure from the headline-grabbing, cable TV news-seeking style of the outgoing politician Walters.
"If there is ever anybody that I thought could calm the waters, like I think we sorely need right now, it is him," said Claremore City Manager John Feary.
