A man was arrested after Madison Police say he assaulted a police officer.
On Monday, police responded to a call in the city to assist HEMSI with a man who was experiencing a mental health crisis.
According to police, officers attempted to restrain the man for transport to the hospital.
In doing so, police say the man grabbed an object with which he struck the officer and then bit the officer before he was fully restrained.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Madison Hospital. Police say he is expected to recover and return to full duty.
The suspect, 39-year-old Anthony Powell, was evaluated at Huntsville Hospital before being taken to Madison County Jail on the charge of assault on a police officer.
Jail records show Powell's bond was set at $12,000
