ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A Powder Springs teenager has been sentenced to 20 years for killing two people and injuring two others in a car crash, according to the Cherokee County district attorney.
The district attorney said Oliver Luis Roman, 19, was driving in his car with four other teens when he lost control on Towne Lake Parkway on Jan. 6, 2024, hitting a tree in the center median.
Gabriel Escandon, 17, died at the scene. Esteban Cortez-Rendon, 18, died on the way to the hospital.
Alejandro Trejo, 18, and Christopher Martins Peixoto, 17, both suffered serious injuries.
The five were reportedly celebrating Cortez-Rendon’s birthday.
According to the district attorney, Roman reached speeds of 93 mph in a 40 mph zone, and witnesses and cellphone video “showed Roman weaving
