CROWN POINT — A judge imposed a 6-year prison sentence Tuesday on a 33-year-old man who sold crack cocaine that contributed to the overdose death of a 39-year-old man in early 2024.

Anthony Polk, of Gary, will serve all six years in the Department of Correction, despite the option for alternative placement in work release or on probation, per his plea agreement. He was rejected from direct placement into work release, and Lake Criminal Court Judge Natalie Bokota said that Polk wasn't a good candidate to serve any part of his sentence on probation because he had previously violated his probation.

Polk sold $100 worth of crack cocaine to James "Jimmy" Woerpel, of Hammond, around 2 a.m. Jan. 7, 2024. Woerpel was found dead inside his residence a few hours later. Detectives
