URBANA, N.Y. (WETM) — A three-year-old is safe after deputies said a child was missing in a wooded area for hours on Tuesday, initiating a search by many different law enforcement agencies.

Around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, deputies with the Steuben County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a missing 3-year-old child from a home on county Route 16 in Urbana, according to the Steuben County Sheriff's Office.

It was reported that the child had left the home, possibly following a puppy.

Responding units from New York State Police and the Steuben County Sheriff's Office began looking into the report before a search was started. K9 Tripp was used to try to track the child while deputies, investigators, and troopers set up a search area.
