The Detroit Tigers’ slim lead in Game 1 of their American League Wild Card series with the Cleveland Guardians was now in the hands of Will Vest.

With a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth at Progressive Field in Cleveland, an error during an attempted play at first base resulted in the Guardians’ José Ramírez reaching third with no outs.

But Vest didn’t stray and struck out his next batter before fielding a chopper back to the mound, knowing he could make a game-clinching play.

The righty caught Ramírez between the base paths and tagged him for a critical out ahead of forcing the final out of his four-out save on a fly out.
