The Dallas Wings parted ways with coach Chris Koclanes on Tuesday after just one season on the job.
Koclanes missed the playoffs in his lone year in Dallas, compiling a 10-34 record along the way.
His departure opens the door for a new coach to inherent a talented young roster headlined by the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year in superstar guard Paige Bueckers.
Napheesa Collier’s blunt call out of the WNBA, explained
We have a feeling the Wings job will be a coveted one, giving a coach the chance to lead a team with one of the league's best young players at the forefront of the roster.
Let's run through a few options for the Wings, including a former WNBA championship-winning coach.
Sandy Brondello
Brondello's firing in New York was a shock, but Dallas could benefit from that team's decision. Brondello joining the Wings would immediately make Dallas that much more intimidating for the 2026 season and beyond.
Briann January
January will be one of the more sought-after WNBA assistants in this coaching cycle, as evident by the stellar work she's done with coach Stephanie White to keep Indiana alive in the postseason after so many injuries.
Eric Thibault
Thibault could get a second chance as a WNBA head coach in Dallas after working as Cheryl Reeve's top lieutenant with the Minnesota Lynx this season. That experience alone could entire the Wings in the coaching search.
Jenny Boucek
The former Seattle Storm coach transitioned to a career as an assistant in the NBA, most recently working with the Indiana Pacers. If she wants to return to the WNBA, Dallas would be a heck of a landing spot.
Lindsay Gottlieb
If the Wings want to swing for one of the best college coaches in women's basketball, Gottlieb would probably be at the top of their list. With superstar guard JuJu Watkins out for the year with an ACL injury, perhaps Gottlieb would consider making the jump to the WNBA as a head coach?
