LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Governor Gretchen Whitmer, alongside State Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and Speaker Matt Hall announced the state will pass a full budget “this week,” and that the government will stay open in the meantime.
The deadline to pass the state budget is tonight at midnight. The joint statement claims the legislature will adopt the full budget sometime “this week,” and that the government will operate as usual even if the deadline passes with no final budget.
Typically, reaching the deadline without a signed budget would result in a government shutdown.
