ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A southwest Atlanta elementary school has been evacuated due to a gas leak in the area, according to Atlanta Public Schools.
Students and staff at Kindezi at Gideons Elementary School were taken to a nearby church parking lot after smelling a “strong odor” of gas, the school system said. Everyone has been confirmed safe.
A spokesperson for Atlanta Gas Light said a gas line near the school was damaged by a contractor who isn’t affiliated with the utility company.
The spokesperson said crews have turned off the gas and are working to repair the gas line at 860 Welch Street, just up the street from the school.
