RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has arrested one person for their alleged role in a deadly shooting last week.

Benjamin Hampton, 31, was arrested and taken into custody on Monday after warrants for his arrest were obtained on Friday.

Hampton was identified as the suspect during the investigation, according to law enforcement.

The shooting took place on Mellowood Drive on Sept. 22 around 2 a.m.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they reportedly found one victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body and another unresponsive.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital, where one of them was pronounced dead. He was later identified as 34-year-old Ricky J. Bates, of Columbia.
