NEW ROADS, La. (WAFB) - The son of Iberville Parish Assessor Randy Sexton has been charged with two felonies after being shot by a police officer, the WAFB I-TEAM learned Tuesday.

John Sexton, 45, was charged with aggravated assault upon a peace officer and resisting a police officer with force or violence. A warrant for his arrest was vague and did not highlight details about what police say he is accused of.

Sexton was shot at least five times on September 19, leaving him with wounds to the midsection, elbow, shoulder, and hand, sources said. Sources added that Sexton was not armed with a weapon at the time of the shooting.

Louisiana State Police (LSP) officials took over the investigation but remained tight-lipped about what happened leading up to the shooting.
