NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - There was a time when the station atop Knob Hill was churning out shows like a Hollywood studio.

Everyone from Johnny Cash to Dinah Shore to Captain Kangaroo was taping in or going live from WSMV’s Studio A.

But three of WSMV’s most famous shows deserve their own time in the spotlight.

From 1960 to 1981, “The Porter Wagoner Show” blazed the trail for original Must-See TV, bringing the biggest stars-to-be, like country icon Dolly Parton, right to your living room.

In his original show open, the country music crooner, known for his blond pompadour and flashy Nudie and Manuel suits, walks through the same studio door where WSMV now brings you the news.
