NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — The UNITE HERE Local 217 union announced Tuesday that its members who are employed by Sodexo at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain have voted to authorize a strike.

The union says that 96% of the CCSU workers voted to authorize a strike.

This comes after 98% voted to authorize a strike at Southern Connecticut State University last Wednesday.

Local 217 Secretary Treasurer Josh Stanley said in a release that the union remains ready to negotiate. He believes a strike should not be necessary.

“We are simply looking to reach a fair contract in line with other post-COVID contract settlements we have reached with other employers,” Stanley said.
