BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Former Birmingham Mayor William Bell read a letter Tuesday he wrote nine years ago that was buried in a time capsule at CBS 42.

Bell, who served as the Magic City's highest-ranking official from 2010-17, completed the letter September 28, 2016. He then placed the letter in a time capsule as part of the Birmingham 2025 special report CBS 42 aired in 2016.

The time capsule was put away on September 30, 2016. Nine years to the day, CBS 42 dug it up. Bell was outside the CBS 42 studio when his letter was opened, and he read it live during Tuesday's 5 p.m. newscast. You can listen to him read the letter at the top of the article.
