The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said an 18-year-old is facing a murder charge that stems from a Westside shooting that took place in May, which left a 39-year-old man dead.

According to police, on May 15, Andre Thomas was attempting to break into several cars on Donte Swan’s property, located on Wheat Road near Ricker Road.

When Swan confronted the group, Thomas shot him twice with a pistol, the agency said. Swan died at the hospital.

Through their investigation, police said they learned that Thomas and the group had previously stolen a different car, drove to the area where Swan’s home was located “for murder,” and began attempting to steal other vehicles, which led to the deadly confrontation with Swan.
