PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - People on Medicaid in Pitt County are now voicing concerns as upcoming reductions could lead to cuts to their healthcare coverage.

After learning she had a blood clot in her lungs more than 15 years ago, Evelyn Harrell needed help but had no job or money.

“I was doing the best I could as far as eating and living,” Harrell said.

Harrell soon discovered that she could receive Medicaid, which helped her expenses. It’s a benefit that over 3 million people in North Carolina rely on, but they could soon face cuts to their healthcare coverage.

Beginning Wednesday, all providers treating Medicaid patients will see at least a 3% reduction in pay, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
