The Bayou St. John community is mourning the loss of a neighbor after a deadly shooting over the weekend.

His friend remembers him as a craftsman who was compassionate and always willing to help other people.

"He was all about helping people, and he opened the door to this guy, I'm sure to see how he could help," said Daniel Winkert, Brown's neighbor. "He was the first person to call or to donate time to do whatever was needed to help those in need."

Winkert said Brown was shot through his front door after a man knocked on several houses in the area.

"Apparently, this gentleman was knocking on other houses beforehand, and he just happened to be the person who opened the door," Win
