ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Officials gathered at the Empire State Plaza Concourse on Tuesday to celebrate Orange Shirt Day. The event is designed to educate people about the history and background of the Indian Residential School System in the United States and Canada.

Officials unveiled a poster installation as part of the event. The display features information about the history of residential schools in the state.

One speaker delivered emotional remarks and emphasized the importance of acknowledging what survivors have endured and the need to remember the difficult chapter in history.
