CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- Churches in Champaign-Urbana are reacting to Sunday’s deadly mass shooting at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan.

A former Marine drove a truck into the building, started shooting, and lit the building on fire. It killed four people and injured eight more, ages six to 78.

Michael Bednar -- President of the Champaign Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- said his church is praying for those affected.

“We are mourning with you,” Bednar said. “Our hearts are hurting right now, but we have faith and we know there is comfort.”

Other religious leaders across Champaign-Urbana, like Interfaith Alliance co-chair Rev. Beth Monhollen, reached out to the Champaign Church of Jesus Christ branch with condolences.
