SAULT STE. MARIE — A brown-out Tuesday evening led to an evacuation that lasted around three hours.

Fire crews were called to Lake Superior State University around 5:45 p.m. for fire alarms going off.

When they arrived, there were reports of smoke entering buildings.

LSSU President David Travis told 9&10 News that all buildings were evacuated.

The smoke was coming into the buildings from the underground steam tunnels after a report of a small fire.

Power was cut off to the campus around 7:20 p.m.

Fire crews cleared the scene around 8:30 p.m. once the campus was deemed safe.
