Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber has been a vocal proponent of a proposal to raise the city's minimum wage to $17.50 an hour from the current rate of $15 and tie future increases to local housing costs.

But the clock is running out for Webber to vote on a wage measure he is sponsoring — a new delay in bringing the proposal to a final City Council vote comes as just four more council meetings are scheduled between now and the end of 2025, when his term ends.

Councilors on the Public Works and Utilities Committee voted Monday to postpone their vote to move the measure forward, citing community surveys on the issue that are still underway. That pushes the legislation's return to the full council into November.
