GILBERT (AZFamily) — The town of Gilbert held a private meeting with its Public Works and Utilities Department after dozens of residents told Arizona’s Family their water bills have surged by hundreds, even thousands, of dollars.
Some families said their usage has gone up by thousands of gallons on paper, but they insist they are not using any more water than usual.
For single mom Savannah May, the issue hits especially hard. Her three boys love to paint, but she says the rising bills are forcing her to choose between art supplies and essentials.
She said her bill, normally about $150, has more than tripled since Gilbert changed its utility billing system.
“What’s this? $539, $527, $725?” May said, pointing at her latest statements.
Her children are now limited to one short shower
